In addition to being a member of ATPA, he was also a member of the national Forest Resources Association, the Arkansas Forestry Association and the Arkansas Sheriff’s Association. He was active in the Log A Load For Kids program in Monticello and was named AFA’s Outstanding Logger for 2002. Buddy exemplified great service to his industry, his colleagues and his employees and his spirit of volunteerism has been a great model for all of us. His contributions to the association over the last decade have helped ATPA evolve into an organization, representing with great strength the interests of Arkansas loggers. A beloved husband, father, Papaw and friend, he is survived by his wife of 38 years, Judy Johnson Long of Monticello; one son, James Raymond "Chip" Long Jr. and wife Andrea of Palo Alto, Calif.; two daughters, Susanne Kibodeaux and husband Steven and Melinda Long Hill, all of Monticello; one brother, Larry Don Long of Monticello; two grandchildren, Drake Hill and Hannah Kibodeaux, both of Monticello, and a host of friends. A memorial has been established at Arkansas Children’s Hospital, where donations can be made to support Log A Load For Kids. As we look at the life and ethic exhibited by Buddy Long, we recognize even more fully the true essence of the Arkansas logger – appreciative of the natural landscape, independent and hardworking to the core, and willing to give of his time for the benefit of others. Thank you, Buddy, for our industry has certainly been the fortunate recipient of your time and many talents. |
